Ellen DeGeneres & Shutterfly

On Friday, November 2nd, Ali appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show and was surprised with a check for $50,000 from Shutterfly. After learning of her diagnosis and ‘bucket list’, Ellen wanted to make sure she could live her last year to fullest and teamed up with Shutterfly to make that happen.

The Bucket List

Following her diagnosis, Ali endured months of aggressive chemotherapy. She said that watching Ellen DeGeneres brought her a sense of comfort, so appearing on the show and meeting Ellen was now off the bucket list.  What’s next?

With only one year to live, Ali is not letting the cancer keep her down. Instead, she plans to live life to the fullest for the next year. With her love a food, she plans to travel the world and eat at the best restaurants with her friends and family. She also wants to go on a Safari and spend as many moments as possible just enjoying life, surrounded by the people she loves.

Ali wrote the following in an essay for Bon Appetit in October, “I am desperate to overload my senses in the coming months, making reservations at the world’s best restaurants, reaching out to past lovers and friends, and smothering my family, giving them the time that I so selfishly guarded before,”

Ali has received a ton of support from the cast and crew of Top Chef. They setup a GoFundMe page which has generated $88, 325 of the $150,000 goal. The page states that 100% of the funds will go directly to Ali, but any remaining money will be donated to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.  She also told Ellen that she plans to donate to the organization in hopes that one day there will be a cure for this rare cancer.
