Grilled Shrimp with Spicy Chili Sauce

Today’s healthy, spicy meal is a unique twist on shrimp cocktail! If you like chili sauce, spicy seafood dishes or just love grilled shrimp, this meal is for you! It’s light, refreshing and has just enough kick to brighten your meal.

This dish would pair well with an earthy, semi-sweet red wine and a creamy mushroom risotto on the side. This should make 4 servings, so you’ll have plenty for your friends or family.

Step 1: Chili Sauce

  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 rib celery from heart with leafy tops, finely chopped
  • 2/3 to 3/4 cup chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice, about 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce

Mix these ingredients together in a bowl and season with pepper. If you’re not big on pepper, you can go light, but if you love that peppery flavor, add to your heart’s content.  Once you’ve mixed these, you can toss them in the fridge until you’re ready to use them.

Step 2: Grilled Shrimp

  • 16 jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt
  • 1 teaspoon smoked sweet paprika
  • A pinch of parsley, finely chopped

Now we can get to the shrimp! You’ll start by swiping the olive oil over the shrimp and then add salt, pepper and smoked paprika. Then, skewer the shrimp and grill them until they’re no longer translucent and become firm.

This should take around 7-8 minutes, and you can use the skewers to turn them to make sure they’re cooked evenly!

Step 3: Serving

Once the shrimp is cooked, pile it on a serving plate and drizzle the sauce over it. Alternatively, if you’d rather flavor it to taste with the cocktail sauce, you can put the sauce in a dish on the table next to the serving platter. As the sauce is rather spicy, this might be advised if some of your dinner guests don’t love spicy food!

As we mentioned earlier, you could pair this dish quite easily with a creamy mushroom risotto in order to somewhat cut the spicy flavor of the shrimp sauce. Additionally, a deep, semi-sweet red wine would pair quite well, helping round out the meal. We hope you enjoy this meal with your friends or family!
