You know what they say: nothing’s as American as a classic apple pie! Today, we’re cooking up an apple pie that will make you think of Americana, Bruce Springsteen, baseball and all that other warm fuzzy stuff. Really, what’s not to love about this classic dish? Let’s cook it up.
Classic Apple Pie Recipe
What You’ll Need
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 3 tablespoons of flour
- 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 7 cups of thinly sliced apples, peeled
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 9-inch pastry pie crust
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- One large egg, white
How to Make
The good news, gang, is that this is a pretty easy recipe. Just follow these steps and you’ll have a delicious apple pie in no time. First, preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Start with a small bowl and mix the sugar, flour and spices all together. Then, get a large bowl and throw the apples and lemon juice in there. Throw the sugar mixture from the small bowl in the large bowl and toss it to coat the apple slices.
Next, get a nine-inch pie play. Line the bottom with crust, and then trim it evenly. Add the coated apples and dot the mixture with butter. Roll out the rest of the dough so that it’s able to be pulled over the top of the pie. Trim it, seal it and cut slits in the crust.
Next, get a large bowl for the eggs. Beat the egg whites until they foam, and then brush them over the crust. Sprinkle a bit of sugar on the top of the crust, and then put foil on the edges. It doesn’t need to be too tight, so leave it a little loose.
Bake the pie for between twenty-three and twenty-six minutes. Then, take it out and carefully remove the foil. Put it back in for a bit longer until the crust turns golden. This could take between twenty and twenty-five minutes. Keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t burn!
After it’s been baked, put it on a rack and let it cool. Then, serve and enjoy! For best results, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
